Russell Martin’s departure from Rangers has certainly got plenty of people talking.

Martin was sacked by Rangers on Sunday after 17 games at the Scottish club.

His final game was Rangers’ 1-1 draw to Falkirk, where the Gers delivered yet another uninspiring performance.

The vast majority of Gers fans were pleased to see him go, having strongly criticised the direction he was taking the Glasgow club in.

But his dismissal has provoked strong feelings from that venture into conversations greater than football.

The Gers are studying several options to replace Martin, including former Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard, who could make his long-anticipated Rangers return.

Fans and other interested parties have spent the last couple of days theorising and throwing names into the ring to take over. However, not all suggestions have been looked at favourably.

Murdo Fraser, a Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife, who is a Rangers fan, took to X on 5 October with a controversial request.

He said: “No more vegans, Bhuddists or Green Party members please,” while tagging the club in the posts.
