Leicester City’s failure to freshen up their squad this season has been a twofold problem.

Firstly, there’s the issue of the financial disorganisation prior to this campaign that has stopped them from paying transfer fees, with all of their signings coming in on loan or as free agents.

That also limited the number of players City added to their squad, with nine coming in over the course of the season, the second-fewest in the division behind leaders Coventry.

But the second problem is the lack of impact of those signings. Analysis of data shows that City’s nine recruits this term have played an average of 22 per cent of Championship minutes this season, the lowest in the division.

Only Jordan James (64 per cent) and January recruit Divine Mukasa (56 per cent) have played more than a quarter of City’s Championship minutes since they joined the club, with others either injured or overlooked.
