Newcastle United fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat away at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon as they failed to build on the positive momentum they had built up before the international break.

Nick Woltemade scored his fifth goal for the club since his club record £69million move from Stuttgart in the summer but it was cancelled out by two goals from Danny Welbeck either side of it.

Despite creating plenty of chances, defeat meant Newcastle missed the chance to move into the top half of the Premier League table as their inconsistent start to the season continued.
