Russell Martin being shown the door at Ibrox means we’re all in for a few days at least of Rangers working to appoint a new manager. Before they settled for Martin in the first place there’d been a bunch of names seriously linked with the Rangers position.

The process went on for longer than it perhaps should have and the frustration for some Rangers fans was complete when the result was Martin. He didn’t do anything to calm those fears and results ultimately saw his exit from Rangers.

One of the early names to be linked Rangers is Mark van Bommel. The Dutchman was said to be interested in the position, but it would appear sources close to the 48 -year-old have moved to deny that.

SoccerNews in the Netherlands report they’ve spoken to multiple sources about the claim that Van Bommel is interested in Rangers, and… ‘that’s not true’. Nothing has happened between the parties and it doesn’t appear there’s any desire for it to either.

Van Bommel is ‘not open’ to joining Rangers, despite claims he’s keen on the Ibrox position.
