Rangers may have a lot of work to do to convince Steven Gerrard after sacking Russell Martin.

The Liverpool icon was the last manager to win the league title at the Gers, ending their 10-year wait for the trophy.

Martin’s firing was on the wall at Ibrox after the Light Blues suffered their joint-worst European defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off.

Some fans now want to see Andrew Cavenagh bring Gerrard back to the Glaswegian outfit, but the club chairman could potentially have to make certain assurances.

Gerrard doesn’t have the best of opinions about the Gers squad that was assembled for Martin, according to the Daily Record.

The news outlet reports on 6 October that the Liverpool icon is in no hurry to return to management after his spell at Al-Ettifaq.

It’s been claimed that the Englishman has turned down several approaches from interested clubs in recent months, and it remains to be seen whether he finds the current job in G51 appealing.

Another stumbling block for the Glaswegian outfit is that the former midfielder has negative views about the current group of players at Ibrox.
