Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe have admitted they got the Russell Martin appointment wrong in an open letter to supporters.

The 39-year-old was sacked after just four months in charge, following an away draw with Falkirk.

He was escorted out of the car park by police after the game, as angry supporters waited outside.

Rangers are currently eighth in the table, and despite initially backing Martin, club chiefs decided things had gone too far.

A statement was released confirming the decision, but Mr Cavenagh and Mr Marathe have now directly addressed fans in their open letter.

They have not only admitted their mistake with Martin, but have also promised a "rigorous, thoughtful recruitment process" which will be undertaken with urgency.

Both men will be involved in this process.

They also expressed confidence in the players' ability to get the club moving in the right direction.
