Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Sporting CP defender Maxi Araujo at the end of the season.

According to a report via CaughtOffside, Tottenham have already been in contact with the 26-year-old’s representatives, and they could look to make a move for him in the summer.

Can Tottenham get the Araujo deal done?

The player has an €80 million release clause in his contract, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can negotiate a reasonable deal in the coming weeks. Tottenham need a long-term replacement for Ben Davies, and the 26-year-old could be a superb acquisition.

He has proven himself to be a reliable defender in the Portuguese league, and he can be quite effective going forward as well. Araujo has registered 10 goal contributions in all competitions.
