Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill was full of praise for Ethan Galbraith following his side's 1-1 friendly draw with Wales, but claimed the 24-year-old's best position remains in midfield despite his impressive performances at right-back for Swansea City.

Galbraith has become something of a utility option for Swansea this season, moving to right-back in December where he is now arguably the club’s strongest option. But O’Neill has made it clear where he sees his player's long-term future and what his best position is.

“Versatility comes with two things. Athleticism or being a really intelligent footballer,” he said. “Ethan comes into the latter category. Where he's improved is physically in the Championship. He's able to compete, he covers the ground. His physical data's high.

“But his ability to retain the ball and his technical level is extremely high. For me his best position is in midfield for our team."
