Joe Rothwell's absence from the Rangers' Europa League match against Roma was due to illness, Danny Rohl has confirmed.

The midfielder was not present in the matchday squad for the game at Ibrox, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for the home side against the Italian giants.

Rothwell has been a regular substitute in most games recently, but was absent from the squad last night.

His manager has now explained that this was due to illness and it is likely that the midfielder will also miss out on Rangers' Premiership trip to Dundee on Sunday.

Rohl has no other injury concerns in his squad but has suggested that he may consider making some changes to his starting XI in order to bring some freshness to the team.

He told Sky Sports: "So far, everyone is available.

"Just Joe is a little bit ill, but all other players are available and this is also important to understand, take the the squad again.

"I think there could be a couple of changes.

"We need energy, we need fresh legs and some players...
