So much for momentum, right? Celtic don’t ever let us have too many nice things.

Any sense of it collapsed in an appalling, abysmal, shocking first half. We conceded three and could have conceded a couple more.

This team might get us through domestically—I think it will—but the gap between where we are and where we want to be is vast. We clearly don’t have a continental mindset or a continental character. That’s why I’ve said from the start that our next manager shouldn’t come from this tiny, parochial island.

We need someone who can think outside the box. We need someone whose teams are aggressive and technically strong. If we go with the same stale mindset, we’re not going anywhere. This club needs a continental manager with continental ideas—and not just in the dugout. We need continental thinking embedded across every level of the organisation.

It’s no coincidence that these teams keep turning us over—teams we should be beating. Clubs that can’t compete with us financially, yet still make smarter signings and appoint better managers for this level than we do.
