On Monday night’s podcast, those listening might’ve been a little surprised that I opened with a rant about Sports Interactive—the makers of Football Manager. But there was good reason for it. There’s a huge number of Celtic fans who play that game, and plenty might’ve been ready to buy the new version on Tuesday, the day it launched.

I felt I had to send out a clear warning: don’t waste your money. What Sports Interactive have done this year is unacceptable.

But it wasn’t just about a bad game. It was about the mindset behind the failure, and how similar it is to what we see at Celtic Park. This was as much an expression of frustration at our own board as it was an attack on a software company for shipping out a broken product. Because the truth is, the mess SI are in isn’t the result of things beyond their control. It’s the result of decisions—bad ones—made inside their own walls.

Sounds familiar, right? Of course it does.
