Bayern Munich chief Max Eberl has reiterated their desire to extend Dayot Upamecano's contract amid speculation linking Liverpool with the player. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and the German giants are facing a battle to keep their central defender.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the former RB Leipzig stopper as they face the prospect of defensive change with Ibrahima Konate heading into the final six months of his contract. Upamecano has established himself as a key member of Vincent Kompany's side as Bayern look to defend their German crown.

Liverpool missed out on the signing of Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window and new arrival Giovanni Leoni remains sidelined after picking up a serious knee injury Eberl believes Upamecano is one of the best defenders in the world and their priority is to tie the 27-year-old down to a new contract.
