Marti Cifuentes may have felt he had to afford a clean slate to Leicester City’s players because the possibility of a full squad revamp over the summer wasn’t viable.

For fans, dismissing the past is not possible. They’ve sat through the relegations, unlike Cifuentes, and so the players’ reputations are, to a degree, forever stained.

When City perform like they did at Hull, it awakens supporters’ past grievances with players and leads to anger.

Perhaps more than in other games, some of that anger has been directed towards the manager. He is the man picking the players who have let down the club before and expecting them to produce.

There’s also a growing feeling within the City fanbase that Cifuentes’ words and actions do not align, and that his supposed commitment to turning to the best academy players has not been followed up.
