Connor Jennings scored twice as Tranmere ended their seven-match winless streak with an emphatic 4-1 League Two win over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Centre-back Nathan Smith put Andy Crosby's side on course for their first league victory since August with his third goal this season when he headed in Omari Patrick's cross after 33 minutes.

Skipper Jennings then took centre-stage and strengthened the Merseyside club's grip on the contest, six minutes after the break.

He nodded Aaron McGowan's cross over goalkeeper Luke Southwood to register his first goal since the opening day of the season.

Jennings was jumping for joy again after 73 minutes when the striker finished from close range when Southwood spilled a long-distance shot from Patrick as the visitors ran rings round their hosts.

The 33-year-old Jennings turned provider six minutes later when he sent in a low cross that substitute Josh Davison tapped in from close range.

On-loan Birmingham midfielder Alfie Chang pulled a goal back for the hosts after 86 minutes when his deflected from 20 yards beat Joe Murphy before a chorus of boos from home fans greeted the final whistle.
