Wales goalkeeper Karl Darlow is hoping to finally put his Wembley woes behind him when he faces England – the nation he once dreamt of playing for.

The Leeds United shot-stopper has been denied the chance to play beneath the famous arch on two occasions due to administrative issues, first with Newport in 2012 and then in Newcastle United's 2023 Carabao Cup final.

Darlow was on loan from Nottingham Forest when Newport's FA Trophy final against York passed him by.

The Exiles had failed to register the then 21 year old before the international clearance deadline and their subsequent appeal, citing a paperwork delay beyond their control, was rejected.

More than a decade on, Newcastle were powerless to bring Darlow back from a loan stint at Hull after Nick Pope was ruled out of their Wembley showdown with Manchester United through suspension. Lloris Karis played in goal on the day in one of only two appeaances for the club.
