Cristian Romero's father has confirmed that the Tottenham captain has a 'very high release clause' in his existing contract at the north London club. The Argentinian defender has been linked with a potential departure from Spurs this summer amid the club's continued struggles in the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi will take charge of his first match as head coach when they face Sunderland this weekend, aware that points must be accumulated swiftly if they are to distance themselves from the relegation zone. Currently, Spurs occupy 17th position in the top flight, just a point clear of West Ham in the final relegation spot.

Romero has featured 31 times across all competitions, contributing six goals and four assists during that period.

Nevertheless, he has been absent from several top-flight matches due to injury and has been linked with a potential exit from the club should they suffer relegation this summer.

"He has two more years on his contract with Tottenham and a very high release clause," Victor Romero revealed in a recent interview. "The English club isn't going to let him go for free; it's between $50-70m [£37.8m-£53m].
