Mohammed Kudus is poised to become one of the primary beneficiaries of Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment at Tottenham Hotspur, with analyst John Wenham pointing to a previously unreported transfer agreement as evidence that the Ghanaian was always a player the Italian had earmarked as a key target.

In August 2023, Brighton reached an agreement in principle with Ajax to sign Kudus for around €40 million, with the deal described at the time by journalist David Ornstein as being for a player who was a key De Zerbi target. The move ultimately fell through after West Ham gazumped the Seagulls, and Kudus eventually joined Tottenham in the summer of 2025 in a £55 million deal. The fact that De Zerbi was actively pursuing him three years ago speaks volumes about how highly the manager rates the 25-year-old and the kind of role he envisages for him.

Wenham, speaking exclusively to TottenhamNews, was in no doubt about what De Zerbi’s arrival means for Kudus and his prospects at the club. He said:
