Last night, with very little to watch on the television, I thought I would cast an eye on the friendly international fixture between England and Uruguay.

Reflecting, after the final whistle, I wish I had not bothered, the fare that was served up has already convinced me that England’s chances of winning the World Cup are minimal.

Having selected an over-sized squad, in order for the last few candidates that might make his squad a chance to impress, very few actually did, perhaps the only one that really caught my eye was Cole Palmer, who, coming on as a substitute, actually looked as if he wanted to show what he can do.

But, on the whole, the game was pretty poor to watch and, some twelve hours later, I am still wondering what has gone so wrong with Phil Foden’s game.

It was not that long ago that the Manchester City player, after a glittering season, picked up the Premier League Player of the Season and the PFA Players Player of the Year, accolades that very few can match.
