A major police operation was launched today in response to the Brighton and Hove Albion FC match against bitter rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex.

Fans of the two teams were kept separate, with Palace fans congregating at The Bright Helm pub in West Street while home supporters were at The Grand Central opposite Brighton railway station.

Dozens of officers and vans were joined by mounted police as part of the operation, which saw fans escorted to the station and kept separate from one another.

There were boos and jeers in the station when the two rival fanbases spotted each other - but no major disorder so far, according to our reporter on the scene.

The match kicks off at the Amex in Falmer at 2pm. Follow our live sports blog for further updates.
