Crystal Palace midfielder Matheus França is now facing a different kind of battle during his loan at Vasco da Gama – and Brazilian media suggest it is increasingly psychological.

The 21-year-old was sent back to Brazil to rebuild rhythm and confidence after a difficult spell in England. However, despite the arrival of Renato Gaúcho – which looked like a potential boost – his situation has barely improved on the pitch.

Pressure turning into a mental issue

According to Bolavip in Brazil, there is now a growing feeling inside Vasco that the constant criticism from supporters is affecting França’s confidence.

The Crystal Palace owned attacking midfielder continues to receive negative reactions from the stands, even as the team itself improves. Vasco are unbeaten under Renato Gaúcho, yet França remains on the fringes and under pressure.

The latest example came in midweek. França came off the bench against Coritiba but failed to make an impact. At one key moment, he miscontrolled the ball during a promising counterattack, wasting a chance that could have secured victory. Vasco then conceded an equaliser.
