Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Tammy Abraham, who is now expected to undergo a medical ahead of his return to the club.

The 28-year-old was identified by Unai Emery as a replacement for Donyell Malen following his move to AS Roma.

Negotiations to secure Abraham’s signature had proven difficult, but Villa have now made a breakthrough and have verbally agreed a deal with Besiktas for his transfer.

The club will now look to complete the formalities, with Abraham expected to join the squad in time for next weekend’s match against Brentford, pending a successful medical.

Abraham joined Besiktas on loan from Roma last summer, with an obligation to buy under certain conditions.

He has scored seven goals in 18 Super Lig matches this season, along with six more across all competitions for the Turkish club.

It is expected that Abraham will now return to Villa Park, where he spent the 2018/19 season on loan from Chelsea.
