Marti Cifuentes has hinted he would be cautious over signings from Sweden in January amid Leicester City links to the country’s top scorer Ibrahim Diabate.

City are said to have agreed a deal with GAIS in Allsvenskan for Diabate, who scored 18 goals in the 2025 campaign to finish as joint-leading scorer.

He shared top spot with August Priske, who this week signed for Birmingham City from Djurgardens.

And so if City did bring Diabate to the Championship, they would not be the only club who believe that a player from Sweden’s top flight can make the jump to England.

However, Cifuentes, who had two seasons in Sweden with Hammarby, has acknowledged it might be difficult for a player from the Allsvenskan to make an immediate impact in the winter window.
