Stranraer face a nervous wait to see if they will face Rangers in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup as the Scottish FA probe claims they fielded an ineligible player.

After the winner of the Stair Park fixture between them and Queen's Park were paired with the Ibrox side at the next stage, the League Two outfit went on to cause an upset by beating their Championship opposition on penalties.

However, they fielded goalkeeper Lyndon Tas between the sticks having just signed the 17-year-old on loan from Hearts that day. Scottish Cup rules state players must have been registered to play on the initial scheduled date of the game in order to be able to play after any rescheduling.

The game was postponed on Saturday due to Stranraer's pitch being waterlogged, and pushed back to Tuesday night.

There is an exception for goalkeepers signed on an emergency loan but it is does not appear that has been the case with Tas.

Stranraer have been served with a notice if complaint and will now face a hearing next Wednesday.
