MLS side Charlotte FC are prepared to offer Harvey Elliott an escape from his nightmare loan spell at Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old has endured a difficult campaign since joining the Villans on loan from Liverpool on transfer deadline day, finding himself out of favour under manager Unai Emery.

Elliott's arrival at Villa Park included an obligation to make the move permanent for £35million, as well as sell-on and buy-back clauses.

But things haven't gone according to plan for him since, having made just five appearances for Villa, as well as playing twice for Liverpool.

This has prompted talk that Elliott could cut his loan spell short halfway into the season.

With the England Under-21 star not part of Liverpool boss Arne Slot's plans, he would likely seek a move elsewhere.

Unfortunately for Elliott, though, his options are severely limited due to FIFA rules, which state that a player cannot play for more than two European teams in a season - effectively banning him from securing a move to another team on the continent.
