Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott could be handed a new solution to his nightmare loan spell at Aston Villa.

It may well come in the form of ex-Villa boss Dean Smith, who is currently in charge of MLS side Charlotte FC, as he is rumoured to be considering offering Elliott an escape route.

The 22-year-old joined Villa on a loan deal from Liverpool on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the agreement including a compulsory purchase clause for £35million if he made 10 appearances.

However, after only five appearances, it seems almost certain that Elliott's future lies elsewhere. He hasn't played under Unai Emery since Villa's 2-0 victory over Feyenoord in early October.
