Ally McCoist reckons that Celtic's lack of spending in the transfer window could be down to Rangers' struggles at the start of this season.

Brendan Rodgers left the Scottish Premiership champions at the beginning of the week.

Dermot Desmond branded the Northern Irishman as 'self-serving' in a rare public statement, as he heavily criticised Rodgers in his departure.

It comes amid the backdrop of an angry Celtic fanbase, who are continually protesting against the club's board over their lack of investment in the team during the summer.

Asked about the protests, he told talkSPORT's 'Studs up' podcast: "I think they have got a point.

"Do you know something, if I can be brutally honest with you, I think Rangers have dragged them down.

"Rangers have been that poor that I think Celtic have looked across the city and said 'Well, we have got them covered and that's going to be our only challenge'.

"They have millions in the bank obviously after the success they have had qualifying for the Champions League in the last number of years."
