As Bruno Guimaraes chatted with journalists with the adrenaline of his last-minute winner still pouring out of him - the last man to lift a trophy as captain of Newcastle United spoke fondly about his love affair with the Carabao Cup.

Bruno was reduced to tears at Wembley last March after finally leading Newcastle to a priceless piece of silverware with that 2-1 win over Liverpool.

As he stood in the interview area in the Milburn Stand reception, a host of Newcastle greats looked down upon him from the grand hallway.

In that area of the stadium hangs a colour portrait of Bob Moncur lofting the old Inter-City Fairs Cup in 1969. Next to Moncur is the team of 1952 with Joe Harvey lifting the FA Cup, while there is acknowledgement of the 1996 team that came close to winning the Premier League, with a picture of David Batty adorning the walls.
