A historic market town in Yorkshire with bundles of culture could be the best place for a charity shop day out in the country.

Located just 40 minutes away from Leeds by car - or even 20 minutes via train - the charming town is renowned for its rich history. But over time it's become a hub for thrift shoppers, turning the presence of 12 charity stores into its greatest strength.

Selby in North Yorkshire, known for the grand Selby Abbey, has a population of around 17,000 and is found on the River Ouse, just 19.3km from York. Six of the stores are located on the High Street alone.

Among the half-dozen on the High Street helping to keep it alive is Martin House, which provides free family-led hospice care for children and young people with life-limiting illness.
