The Egyptian ace was left on the bench by Arne Slot for the second consecutive Champions League match, having also been omitted from the Dutchman's starting line-up for last month's journey to Galatasaray.

Liverpool adopted a 4-4-2 formation without Salah, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike leading the attack together for the first time. Federico Chiesa was then brought on ahead of Salah when Isak had to be substituted due to a groin injury at half-time.
