Michael Owen has revealed whether or not he believes Trent Alexander-Arnold could win the Ballon d'Or. The former Liverpool defender, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer, outlined his dream to win the award last year.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Alexander-Arnold claimed that he wants to become the first full-back to do so and be remembered as the 'greatest right-back to have played football'. Roberto Carlos finished second in the 2002 Ballon d'Or, which was won by his fellow countryman Ronaldo that year.

Together, they won the World Cup in the summer. The England international said: "I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to ever do it. It's only the morning after you retire that you're able to look in the mirror and say, 'I gave it everything I got.'
