Midfielder Chris Rigg says he understands why Sunderland supporters are starting to dream big after the club’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

The Black Cats have exceeded all expectations by capturing 14 points from their opening eight games.

The teenager is happy for fans to get excited but insists he and his team-mates are staying grounded and will just concentrate on the job in hand.

Regis Le Bris’ side visit Chelsea in London on Saturday which is arguably their biggest game so far.

Asked by national reporters about growing talk of a potential European push following Sunderland's 2–0 win over Wolves, the 18-year-old urged fans to enjoy the moment while the players keep their focus.

“I’ve been a football fan and I would dream because they’re doing so well and hopefully it can only get better,” Rigg said.

When asked if the squad were thinking about Europe, Rigg was quick to stress it’s not something he thinks about and said all he and his team-mates are doing is focusing on hard work and the short-term.
