Harry Maguire returned to the Manchester United dressing room to a hero's welcome after his late winner sunk Liverpool.

Maguire headed home the winner at Anfield as United won 2-1 to make it back-to-back wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim and move just two points behind last season’s champions as Arne Slot’s struggles continue.

United took the lead inside two minutes when Bryan Mbeumo slotted past Giorgi Mamardashvili. The visitors defended gallantly, with Maguire at the heart, but Cody Gakpo eventually equalised having struck the post three times in the game.

However, United grabbed all three points with five minutes of normal time to go when Maguire headed home Bruno Fernandes’ looping cross.

The Red Devils managed to hold on and were left jubilant at the end of eight minutes of added time, with the celebrations on the pitch centring around the 32-year-old defender.
