Manchester United stunned Liverpool by winning 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

Bryan Mbeumo put Man United 1-0 up in the second minute, finishing clinically after a clever assist from Amad Diallo.

Liverpool hit back after the break through Cody Gakpo, but Harry Maguire rose like a warrior to meet Bruno Fernandes’ pinpoint cross to register United’s first victory at Anfield since 2016.

While Maguire and Mbeumo naturally grabbed the headlines, manager Ruben Amorim reserved special praise for the outstanding Amad Diallo.

Amorim said after the game (via ManUtd.com): “Amad is doing so well in that position. He’s perfect for that position. He was upset today when I made a sub, but he was on a yellow card, it was a lot of man-to-man on the side, so it was just about that.

“If not, he would continue with the game because he is so important for us. He has struggled for a few weeks [with his bereavement], but we are here for him and that’s the most important thing.”
