Brighton and Hove Albion’s Maelys Mpome was stretchered off in their match against Arsenal, hit in the face by a cross from Caitlin Foord and knocked unconscious.

She immediately fell to the floor, with play stopping for over ten minutes while she received treatment.

As she was taken off the pitch, she was placed in a head brace and was receiving oxygen.

BBC Sport – who were broadcasting the match – later confirmed she had received a concussion.

But Brighton boss Dario Vidosic had some better news for fans, saying later in the afternoon to the club website: “She’s up and about and having a shower which is very good news.

“She will continue to be assessed but fingers crossed she’s okay as it’s important for players to come off the pitch as healthy as when they stepped on it.”

And women’s football writer Sylvain Jamet said on social media: “I just spoke to [Mpome] and she said she is fine, which is a very good news.”

Mpome signed for Brighton in 2024 after a single season at Chelsea.
