Arsenal and Brighton's Women's Super League clash was suspended for 10 minutes after Maelys Mpome suffered a worrying head injury.

The Seagulls defender was defending a cross when the ball hit her square in the face. Mpome sparked concern as she was first treated on the pitch before she was placed in a neck brace and administered oxygen.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off the pitch by six medics after a delay of 10 minutes to the match.

Mpome received a standing ovation from Brighton's fans at the Emirates Stadium, and her injury saw 13 minutes of stoppage time added to the end of the game, which was won 1-0 by the Gunners.

Brighton's social media account said: "After a lengthy pause in play, Maelys has been stretchered off after initially receiving medical attention on the pitch. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Maelys."
