Aston Villa favourite Ian Taylor is still waiting on a contract offer from Birmingham City.

The 57-year-old, who retired in 2007, has revealed how he had what he thought was a successful trial with Blues in the early 1990s.

Boyhood Villa fan Taylor, who went on to play 291 times over nine seasons the club, was playing non-league football in Birmingham at the time.

He would go on to eventually make the grade with Port Vale - but only after Blues left him waiting.

"I had a trial when I was at Moor Green, I went there for a week," the former midfielder told Undr the Cosh.

"Terry Cooper was the manager and I was there for a week.

"I played a couple of friendlies, scored in a couple of friendlies, and at the end of the week he had me in the office, he said, 'Look, you've done really well, really, really well, we'd like to sign you'.
