Martin Tyler has revealed that Liverpool's legendary 4-3 victory over Newcastle United in 1996 stands as his favourite match to commentate on. The former commentator served as the Premier League's leading voice in the UK for decades, covering numerous iconic encounters before retiring in 2023.

However, none matched a thrilling clash between Liverpool and Newcastle nearly three decades ago, which was decided by Stan Collymore's injury-time winner. The two clubs were challenging Manchester United for the championship at that point, and while they ultimately claimed the title, that Merseyside encounter remains the most unforgettable moment of the 1995/96 campaign for many.

"This has been a stock answer for the period of time since it happened," Tyler told The Mixer, when asked about the best game he commentated on during his career. "It was 1996.

"It was Liverpool four, Newcastle three, which ended with Stan Collymore scoring the winner in added time, and Liverpool, I think Robbie Fowler got two, Stan got two, and Ginola scored for Newcastle....
