Alan Shearer believes Nick Woltemade will now be more determined to succeed at Newcastle United after controversial comments from Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

The German Bundesliga champions spent the summer trying to sign Woltemade from Stuttgart but refused to pay their asking price. The Magpies then stole in towards the end of the transfer window - securing Woltemade's signature for a club record fee of £69million.

Rummenigge then dubbed Newcastle 'idiots' for paying such a high fee, and he is one of several Bayern Munich officials to publicly criticise the Woltemade deal. However, the German international continues to offer his response on the pitch.

The 23-year-old became only the third Newcastle forward since Shearer and Les Ferdinand to score in each of his first three home Premier League games after bagging the second goal of their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. And Shearer has now offered his take on the comments from Rummenigge.
