Regular Celtic watchers will know there is a story doing the rounds right now about Gustav Lagerbielke and alleged interest in him from clubs in the so-called “Big Five” leagues. Apparently, this is supposed to make Celtic fans believe we made a huge mistake letting him go. Maybe there is a world in which we did.

But the bigger mistake was signing a player who didn’t fit the style the manager wanted to play in the first place.

I don’t tend to judge players on what they do after leaving Celtic. I couldn’t care less, in truth. The fact that Oh has started producing elsewhere already has people speculating that we missed something, that we failed to recognise what was in front of us. We didn’t.

We watched him play for Celtic. Whatever qualities he is showing now were not in evidence when he was here.

Lagerbielke is a slightly different case. I thought there was a decent defender there. The problem was that he simply did not suit the way we play.
