Liverpool still believe they can keep Ibrahima Konate despite his contract running into its final three months.

The Frenchman has been a vital player for Arne Slot since the head coach’s arrival in 2024, but the Reds are running out of time to agree on a new deal.

On Thursday, it was reported that Chelsea and Man City hold an interest in signing Konate on a free transfer. But as the Premier League duo join top clubs across Europe in keeping an eye on the centre-back’s situation, journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared how likely Liverpool are to keep him instead.

As well as the interest from Chelsea and City, news emerged on Thursday that Liverpool think they can keep Konate.

And according to Plettenberg, the Reds still hold a ‘strong’ chance of convincing the 26-year-old to sign a new contract despite time quickly running out.

“Liverpool are continuing to push to extend Ibrahima Konate’s expiring contract,” he says. “A new long-term deal is already on the table.”
