Jack Wilshere struggled to hide his glee at the thought of his Luton Town side playing Tottenham in the Championship next season.

The stars would have to align for that prospect to become a reality and, at present, it looks like Spurs dropping down a division looks a stronger bet than the Hatters enjoying an instant return to the second tier.

Wilshere’s side are currently six points adrift of a play-off place, albeit with a game in hand, but the former Arsenal star has already enjoyed a measure of success this season by steering his club to Wembley in the Vertu Trophy following their midweek win over Northampton Town.

Arsenal’s north London rivals, meanwhile, are hovering perilously close to the relegation zone following Thursday night’s shambolic defeat against Crystal Palace.

The future of interim boss Igor Tudor is already under review and Wilshere would love to be locking horns with a club he has regularly taunted in the past.
