Rangers defender Clinton Nsiala has publicly apologised after being sent off for violent conduct.

The 22-year-old, currently on loan at Westerlo, was given his marching orders after he appeared to elbow Union Saint-Gilloise's Marc Giger in the head during a goalless draw on Sunday.

The incident happened in the 29th minute after Giger knocked the ball out of Nsiala's hands as he attempted to restart play.

The centre-back retaliated, leading to an immediate dismissal from the referee.

Nsiala took responsibility for his actions on Instagram, issuing an apology to the fans of his loan club.

He said: "Dear Westerlo Fans, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the bad attitude I displayed this afternoon.

"It was selfish and unprofessional of me as I hurt us by getting an early penalty in this match.

"It is also very frustrating because I would have liked to be part of the performance the team put forward this afternoon.
