Late last week brought news of another court case involving Celtic. For a brief moment, the Ibrox fan sites went into familiar mode, indulging their two favourite fantasies. First, that Celtic is a uniquely evil organisation. Second, that the club is somehow on the brink of its denouement.

They still cling to the idea that these cases might destroy Celtic. By now, the courts should have cured them of that illusion. The way the previous cases concluded should have settled the matter. All the fevered talk about settlements that would cripple or wipe out the club proved as ridiculous as we said it was at the time.

That said, Celtic allowed this process to drag on for far too long. The club should have settled these claims on an honourable basis years earlier. Legally, we may have stood on firm ground. However, legality alone should never be the only measure that matters. Even so, the situation was more complex than many people wanted to believe.
