Darwin Nunez’s future remains uncertain less than a year after the striker left Liverpool to move to the Saudi Pro League. Nunez spent three years at Anfield before joining Al-Hilal on a permanent deal worth £46million in the summer.

In response, the Reds moved to sign Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, with the combined fees for both players exceeding £200million.

Nunez has gone on to score seven goals across 23 appearances for Al-Hilal, but was handed a blow this week after being removed from the club’s squad list for the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Hilal are only allowed to name a certain number of senior foreign players on their squad list in the league, and had to remove one player to make room for the arrival of Karim Benzema, who was signed from Al-Ittihad during the January transfer window.
