Jannik Vestergaard may not play again until April after undergoing a hernia operation.

The Leicester City centre-back has tried to overcome the issue without the need for surgery, but a decision has been taken for him to go under the knife, ruling him out for at least a month.

Vestergaard has missed City’s last three games and could be sidelined for their next eight. At its longest, the recovery could keep him out until after the March international break, meaning his next fixture may be the home clash with Preston on April 3, when there will be just seven matches remaining.

The injury could also rule the 33-year-old out of Denmark’s crucial World Cup play-offs at the end of March.
