Qarabağ fans travelled more than 2,500 miles for tonight's game against Liverpool FC. Supporters filled the city centre this afternoon before heading over to Anfield for this evening's match.

It is the first time the Reds have taken on the Azerbaijani champions, who were renamed Qarabağ in 1987 and become founding members of their national league.

There are no direct flights from the country's capital Baku to Liverpool so fans have had to go through hubs like Istanbul or London to get to Liverpool. Including layovers and the train or bus from London or Manchester to Liverpool, the journey may have taken the supporters around 12 to 15 hours.

Following their long journey, fans were spotted in the city centre before they marched to Anfield this evening.

The ECHO spoke to a group of fans outside Lime Street who were on their way to the game. The group of cheerful supporters were students who had travelled in from London, Nottingham and had also flown over from Portugal for the game against the Reds.

For many, it was their first time in the city and were making the most of their few days in Liverpool.
