Loris Karius has admitted he 'felt great at Newcastle' but feels he never got a chance to prove his quality during his two-year stay on Tyneside.

Karius was in a rebuilding stage of his career after his infamous errors in Liverpool's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in 2018 and was available on a free transfer after subsequent spells with Besiktas and Union Berlin.

He ended up joining Newcastle in the summer of 2022 and became the club's third choice goalkeeper behind Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

Karius was memorably thrust into making his debut for the club in the 2023 Carabao Cup final against Manchester United after Pope was suspended and Dubravka was cup-tied.

The now 32-year-old performed admirably despite Newcastle's 2-0 defeat and while Karius has fond memories on a personal level for that day he wishes he was given more opportunities to shine for the Magpies.
