Martin O’Neill sat in front of the media last night after the game against Auchinleck and did his best not to answer questions he has already faced again and again. I understand his frustration. I understand that he is angry. And we all know it is not the hacks — who are only doing their jobs — that his anger is aimed at. That’s the Celtic board.

Still, he gave answers that mattered.

He spoke about the importance of this week.

He called it a big week, although that is an understatement.

This is not merely a big week; it is an all-or-nothing week. If the Celtic board does not deliver — and deliver properly, not by signing some Irish teenage striker and pretending that is enough — then consequences will follow.

If the board fails to provide serious reinforcements for a team that desperately needs them, then the fallout will arrive regardless of what happens in the next two fixtures.

The Hearts game is it. They are the league leaders. They hold a six-point advantage over us.

In many ways, this entire window has been leading to that fixture. None of us believed Celtic would make major signings...
