Yesterday I read Michael Gannon’s report on Celtic’s transfer window so far with a sense of incredulity, and it reminded me once again of the sheer stone stupidity of the Scottish sporting media. It is laziness. Inherent cluelessness.

It is willingness to present as insight things that many of us have been saying for years and years.

I am sure some fans felt genuinely shocked to learn that Celtic’s transfer policy is a mess. I am sure others felt surprised by the incoherence of our dealings over the last twelve months.

Gannon certainly appears shocked. He certainly appears surprised. He writes like someone who has only just woken up to the fact that, over the past year in particular, Celtic have been stumbling around like a clown in a minefield.

But this is not a new development. This is not new information.

Gannon writes his breathlessly excited piece as if he is presenting something we were not already painfully aware of. Not only were we aware of it, we recognised it far earlier than he did. It reads as though he woke up one morning with the realisation fully formed in his head and now believes he deserves credit...
