Aston Villa's John McGinn (Image: PA)

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has signed a new contract with the club.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on an extension that will keep him at Villa Park until 2028.

Signed from Hibernian for a modest fee seven years ago, McGinn has played a key role in the club’s rise from the Championship to the Champions League last season.

This term, he will be dreaming of lifting the Europa League trophy in May, after insisting that winning silverware is his next goal.

McGinn attracted interest from a number of clubs last summer, including Everton, but Villa were determined not to sell their skipper.

As a reward for his service to the club, McGinn’s new deal reflects his importance to the first team.
